Participation Groups: Lower Secondary Group (S.1 - S.3) Participation is FREE​ Missions Impossible:

  1. ​Design a multimedia digital book (fiction or nonfiction)

  2. Compete with Socrates! - the art of questioning! Create critical thinking questions for the ebook

  3. Create original digital artwork for the ebook

Nine Free Workshops:

  • Participants may use any online tools to create their own eBooks.

  • Both Fiction and Non-Fiction are welcome. Participants are welcome to use the following theme for their writing “STEAM: AI, Robots, Love & Peace”.

  • Stories can be written in either Chinese or English. Each participant can only submit one piece of work for the competition.

  • Submission of participants’ work:

  • To help students prepare for the competition, 9 free, introductory scaffolding workshops will be offered in April/May which do not require any prior knowledge:

    • April 1, Thu, 5-6pm - Creative writing & digital story writing

    • ​April 5, Mon, 5-6pm - AI and Emotion

    • April 7, Wed, 5-6pm - AI and Arts

    • April 9, Fri, 5-6pm - AI and Machine Learning

    • April 28, Wed, 5-6pm - Socrates questioning

    • April 30, Fri, 5-6pm - Digital art creation I

    • May 7, Fri, 5-6pm - Digital art creation II

    • May 17, 5-6pm - Digital art creation III

    • May 20, 5-6pm - Digital art creation IV

Submission of participants’ work:

  1. Participants must submit the Google drive link to their eBook by filling the submission form (TBC ) on or before Jun 28, Fri, at 23:59. The eBook link must be accessible without having to log in any personal account.

  2. Participants must submit the link to a text-only Google Docs file document of their story for plagiarism checking.

  3. To facilitate students’ sharing of their ebooks on the competition day, participants are required to video-record the sharing of their ebooks (4 minutes maximum), upload the recording onto YouTube, and submit the YouTube link by Jun 28, Fri, at 23:59.

  4. Participants are required to create 10-30 questions regarding their story and provide a link to a Google Docs file containing the questions and answers to their story.

  • Competition Date and time: Jul 19, 2021 (Mon), 3:30-6:30 pm (HK Time) via zoom

  • Competition results will be announced and the award ceremony will be held on the same day.

    • Dr. Sam Chu (Associate Professor of Faculty of Education, HKU),

    • Ms. Helen Chan (Lecturer (P/T), HKU; Author of a book on Reading 2.0, Editor of children’s literature)

Competition Date and Time:

  • Enrolment period: 15th March, 2021 (Mon) - 14th Jun, 2021 (Mon)

  • Date and time: Jul 19, 2021 (Mon), 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm (HKT - Hong Kong Time)

  • Venue: Online

Awards: There will be at least 10 awards for the winners. The awards include Champion, First runner-up, Second runner-up, and Merit (7 winners). Prizes & Gifts:

  • Digital certificates

  • Souvenirs

  • Award-winning eBooks will be uploaded to a popular online reading platform accessible by nearly 10,000 students and an account will be given to winners

  • Award winners may be invited to become a real author by publishing their book with a publisher!​
